Days 68 and 69 of reading God's Word together

As we go into worship tomorrow I pray like the priests we see our service to the Lord as on honor. I pray that we can look unto Jesus for our salvation and give Him all the praise He is due.
Let us sing Hosanna to God today.

March 09, 2013            Num 18–20, Mark 10:23–45, Ps 33:14–22, Prov 6:28–30
March 10, 2013            Num 21:1–22:21, Mark 10:46–11:11, Ps 34:1–4, Prov 6:31–32

Numbers 18-22:21
The priests had many duties, however this was an honor and blessing from God. They were provided for by the tithes of the people and portions of the sacrifice. As the priests of God we must always keep in mind it is a privilege and honor to serve the Lord.
Chapter 19 deals with ceremonial cleanings. Hebrews 9:11-13 explains that the blood of Christ is where we find our cleansing.
Chapter 20 deals with the rock that Moses hit. Read 1 Corinthians 10:4 to see how this applies to Christ.
The people could not live without water, nor can we live today without the water of life (John 4:l3–14; 7:37–39).
Why did Moses get into so much trouble over this? He exalted himself and failed to glorify God. In calling the people “rebels” and in saying, “Must we [Aaron and I] fetch you water out of this rock?” (v. 10) Moses was not giving God the glory due His Name. It was an evidence of pride and unbelief (v. 12). Moses’ strongest point was his meekness (12:3), yet this was where he failed. Where in your life are you showing pride and thus missing the blessings of God?

Chapter 21 deals with the brazen serpent. Read John 3:14 to understand the spiritual meaning.
The people had sinned in two ways: they had spoken against God, and they had spoken against Moses. Here we have the two aspects of the Law of God: behavior toward God and behavior toward one another. God could have ignored his people’s problem, for they deserved to die, but in His love and grace He provided a remedy.
The serpent of brass pictures Christ, who became sin for us (2 Cor. 5:21). See John 3:14, 8:28, and 12:30–33.
The one uplifted serpent sufficed for the whole camp. Christ alone is sufficient for our salvation; we need nothing more.

The victory over Sihon is mentioned over a dozen times by Old Testament preachers and poets. The victory was important as a confidence builder for Israel. This was Israel’s first victory over an organized state. As such it was a token of the mighty conquests to come. We have here a song of victory written by the Amorites in honor of Israel’s victory.

Balak wanted to pay Balaam to curse the Israelites.  However the man said he would not because he consulted with God and God said not to do it.
A second time they tried to bribe Balaam and again he went to the Lord for guidance. God allowed him to go to teach a lesson.

Mark 10:23-11:11
Why is it so hard for a rich person to make it to heaven?
What does Jesus mean by the first will become last and last will become first?
What is significant about the healing of this man?
Chapter 11
This is the only time that Jesus allowed public adoration, why now? What does Hosanna mean?

Psalm 33:14-34:4
David says we can rejoice and rest in the Lord if we have trusted in Him. How is God your shield?
Chapter 34
David wrote this when he was pretending to be crazy to save his life. Have you ever wondered, why did David go to Gath in the first place?
David says he will praise the Lord continually. How can we do this?
He says the humble will join him in praise. Are you humble?

Proverbs 6:28-32
Again we are told that if we sin it will come back to bit us. A moment of weakness can cause a life of pain.
While there may be a great need to food that does not give us the right to steal. With situation ethics we must be very cautious.
