William Wilberforce once said, “O what a blessing is
Sunday, interposed between the waves of worldly business like the divine path
of the Israelites through the sea! There is nothing in which I would advise you
to be more strictly conscientious than in keeping the Sabbath day holy. I can
truly declare that to me the Sabbath has been invaluable.” I pray that today
being Sunday it has been a tremendous blessing to be with God’s people.
Genesis 27:30-29:14
How
does this whole episode make you feel about this family? Sin the family causes
problems for all. Did Esau have reason to be angry with his brother? What did
his anger cause?
Chapter
28
What
is the value of a blessing? Do we do this today? Do our words have power?
Why
did Esau take this wife? What a horrible motive for marriage. What should be
the motive for marriage?
Jacob
saw a vision of a ladder or staircase with angels going back and forth from
earth to God. The significance was that they were carrying the prayers of Jacob
to God and God was answering his prayers. Mediate on the encouragement this
gave him and should give us as well.
God
spoke to him and told him the covenant with his father is going to be carried
through him. Furthermore, God told him that he was going to take care of him.
His
response was to say surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it. How
many times in our lives could we say the same?
He
made a vow to God to give a tithe. What is your motivation for giving a tithe
to God today?

God
has a plan even when we do not. Where do you see God’s hand in this story?

Pray
for God to send workers for the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Pray how you can be His worker.
